Moms deserve recognition

A few reasons why moms deserve recognition on mother’s day

1) A mother’s smile, when it is directed towards you, makes your day a whole lot better. All she needs is to know that she has helped you to be and feel your best. Say thank you.

2) Mom taught you to be a functioning adult. That was her job, and without that, making it through the modern world would be very hard. Your mom may have forced you to do your homework, but now you see how important it was.

3) Mothers are the emotional backbones of the family. They provide the holding place for everyone’s feelings and do their best to keep us from being hurt.

4) Who would kiss your boo-boos to make it all better if she weren’t around? Mothers have the magic touch (and kiss) to help us heal our wounds, physical and emotional.

5) Truly, our mothers worked hard and made sacrifices, so our lives would be better. There are not a lot of people willing to do that, so let her know you appreciate it.

6) Mothers are forgiving—so forgive her in return. Perhaps nothing will be as valuable a gift to both of you as foregivness Open your heart and drop your resentments. Now that’s love.

7) When you want to climb the tallest mountain, your mother will make your lunch for you. She is the one who will support your dreams when no one else will. She will also remind you to wear clean underwear.

8) Her boundaries made you a better person. You may not have liked some of her decisions, especially when you wanted to party with your friends, but she did keep you out of trouble. Look at some of your friends without a mom who has cared that much.

9) A mother’s ears and eyes hear and see everything. They also have a computer-like memory for all the good (and some of the bad) that came your way. It’s nice to have someone with whom you can reminisce about your whole life.

10) Her opinion will ALWAYS matter to you. Sometimes I don’t always agree or get frustrated with my mom’s well-meaning advice, but I always care about her opinion. Even when I don’t want to consider it, I still value her wisdom.

What is the Dino Doozer Foundation? The Dino Doozer Foundation is a local non-profit organization here in Longview, helping children who are Fighting NF and Childhood Cancer.

Neurofibromatosis (NF) isn’t rare. It occurs in about 1 in 3,000 people. It can affect anyone. It does not discriminate, but it does change the lives of those affected. The Dino Doozer Foundation does not seek to cure, but to help the children and families afflicted by this disease. Dino Doozer can’t do this alone. They need your help.

The Foundation raises funds to help families send their child affected by NF to Camp New Friends in Virginia, a camp that serves to reduce the stigma and isolation that is often associated with neurological disorders and chronic health conditions.

Their goal for this year’s event is to raise $50,000. This money will send up to 20 local children to a full week of camp fun, including airfare to Camp New Friends. This camp is specifically designed to meet the needs of children with severe chronic health conditions. Read more about this amazing camp and what they do at www.brainycamps.com

Miss Thunder Mountain Rodeo Queen 2018

Miss Thunder Mountain Rodeo Queen 2018

Congratulations to the beautiful Paige Riggs as Miss Thunder Mountain Rodeo Queen 2018! The dedication that it takes to be a part of this elite group of equestrians is truly astounding.  See a video of all of her photos HERE!

She is excited to begin her year as rodeo queen and is looking forward to sharing her experiences with all of you! She recently graduated from Onalaska High School, where she participated in 4-H, WASHET , and FFA. Her registered quarter horse gelding, Rugged Attraction or better known as Sam was happily by her side while active in her clubs. This year she is looking forward to all the new people she will have the opportunity to meet while traveling to many rodeos and parades representing Thunder Mountain Pro Rodeo! She thanks you in advance for all your support throughout her next year as Miss Thunder Mountain!

The following is a brief history as found on the Thunder Mountain Rodeo Website.

The Thunder Mountain Pro Rodeo originated as a PRCA rodeo in 1975 under the direction of rodeo committee members Ron McCoy, Mel Boultinghouse, Cal Christensen, Vern Eaton, Wayne Gossett, Bill Merz, George Moore, Les Nelson, and Jan Searing. The rodeo was originally called The Cowlitz County Fair & Rodeo, but after Mount Saint Helens spewed its fire and thunder upon this area in 1980, committeeman George Moore suggested in 1981 that the rodeo’s name be changed to The Thunder Mountain Pro Rodeo.

Since 1981, the rodeo has been known by this memorable name, which though was derived from a volcanic eruption, it also aptly denotes the thundering hooves and energy, which this rodeo brings to town.

When the rodeo began in 1975 we used a borrowed, portable arena that was erected just before the Cowlitz County Fair opened, and had to dismantle it after the fair ended. In 1979, we established a permanent arena. Although this arena was a vast improvement over a portable arena, we now have a state of the art arena, which we are proud to state was entirely constructed by committee members. Cowlitz County Fair Grounds 1970’s Our present committee is comprised of 12 committee members, whereas we had 8 committee members when the rodeo originated.

Christensen Brothers was our original stock contractor. Gold Buckle Rodeo Company is our present stock contractor. We began with $300.00 per added event, and now we add $3,000.00 per event, including barrel racing. Since this rodeo’s origination we have consistently drawn top cowboy and cowgirl contestants to the competition. The Thunder Mountain Pro Rodeo committee believes that the keys to success in having a great rodeo consist of having excellent stock, quality contestants, talented bullfighters, funny clowns, and exciting half-time entertainment. Each year we strive to make the rodeo the most successful rodeo competition we can bring to the Lower Columbia region. We hope that you have the opportunity to experience the Thunder Mountain Pro Rodeo!
